Simon brings up some good points. Don't be discouraged by some of the legal requirements of licenses etc. I think you will find working with other ASF contributors to be a worthwhile experience.
The tomahawk library also has a very large user base that is growing every day. This will be an excellent way to get free feedback and testing in addition to the satisfaction of knowing your component is being used all over the world. +1 for moving this discussion to the development list. If you are willing to put in signficant effort, I think you'll find that the community will meet you half way. Looking forward to seeing these components join the MyFaces family.
