Well iText has a huge advantage for big reports it allows to do them easily, you just have to take care not to drop everything into one table but multiple ones. Also you have a very fine grained control on page breaking etc... the downside is, you code yourself to death to get anything done worthwile. Jasper to my knowlege allows big reports, it simply has a special disk caching of the internal document tree to allow them. But there are still issues with page breaks on sub reports. Birt at its current state maxes out at reports with around 1000 pages (probably itext related, dumping everything into one big table) given the stress tests I gave it. But birt looks really good, I agree, it is amazing for such a young tool to be that far already.
