Another option might be to offer up a secure tunnel.

...you could then check out from localhost:80 -> somehost:8080 -> svn.apache.org:[443|80]

I don't know what infra thinks, but you might be able to do that with the zone.

My firewall blocks svn over all ports.  A good corporate firewall does
packet inspection and can block protocols.  SVN uses webdav protocol
which might be blocked in your case.  I had our admin open it up but
not everyone has that option.

We'll try to get the sandbox examples added when we get a chance.
