We tried to replicate the situation on MyFaces examples but we didn't
see what you mentioned. Could you send some of the code of your page to
see how you are using it?
It's weird because the split="true" should just cause you see a
separator before the item, though if you use theme="ThemeIE" it doesn't
appear.
