Dennis, My understanding is that you would like to test the front end. Not sure that this is what you are looking for (as it is in Ruby) but on our project the QA guys are using a tool called Watir (http://wtr.rubyforge.org/). It has worked very well for us for testing not only business flow but performance as well. Understand that watir only runs in IE on windows.
