(2) using the new OpenSource Myfaces ADF distribution (build from svn) (3) optionally using facelets
(2) & (3) are a good base! See [1] for more infos on the build process.
If you still face problems, post your web.xml / faces-config plus error message on the ADF list, I'm sure there will be quick help.
