Hi, sure, to my mind getting it through JavaScript is the one-and-only solution.
You can also have a look at the sandbox dojo-resource infrastructure. I believe there is a very elegant solution to get to the state/view values etc. . If you don`t find it; tell me I can search for you. When sending the data, keep care of doing a post request.
