i think you have to do only something like this after clicking on the
side-bar (in an action method):

       FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
       facesContext.getExternalContext().getRequestMap().remove(beanName);

We use it in our current application, and it works perfectly,
