You can also use: 
FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
MyBean myBean = (MyBean) 
FacesContext.getApplication().createValueBinding("{MyBeanAliasUsedInFacesConfig}");

This accesses the managedBean in context.
