Actually, there were some significant changes in JSF 1.2, JSP 2.1 to bring about a "realignment". New features include a unified EL and a fix to the problem of rendering JSP and JSF elements out of order. It does not seem that Sun has abandoned this combination of technologies.

On the other hand, conventional wisdom is to prefer JSF + facelets. :)

In addition to the techs David and Cagatay have mentioned, I have also heard good things about Seam (if you are using JBoss). I guess Seam would have the advantage of reducing your technology stack, resulting in fewer integrations. Then again, those technologies the guys mentioned are probably worth the effort.
