Here's what a search turned up:

javac -source 1.4 -target 1.4 -bootclasspath /path/to/jre1.4/lib/rt.jar

You'd have to mavenize the command and put the correct directory in.
It'd probably be easier and faster to simply switch back to Java 1.4,
though.

I think the solution is to set a boot classloader of some kind to
point to the 1.4 jars when compiling, but I can't remember the
