I have to correct my previous post, after examining this a bit more:
a button with defaultCommand="true" will never invoke the transition.
Please add a jira entry.

i think the transition will work if you click the button instead of
hit return on the keyboard.
Can you test this, and if so add a jira entry for transition not
working on defaultCommand submit without click.
