The conversation scope is a scope between request and session. Means - you can hold state between requests. For example, you can put the backing bean for your JSF page into conversation scope and do not have to use things like t:saveState to have the values on the next request. Also the persistence context will be synchronized with the lifetime of your conversation so that you can gain the full advantage of e.g. lazy loading - it just makes all the persistence things really easy.
