Thanks for the response Andrew, I am in fact looking for something that is more fully featured. I see this project, but recent support requests have gone unanswered so I'm not sure of it's status http://sourceforge.net/projects/facecart/
Of course, If I wanted a major overhaul then I could go with ElasticPath as a full featured alternative but I am a little uncomfortable with what I understand their architectural implementation.
