I was thinking of something like this:

<tr:document>
        <tr:image id="busyIconIndicator" source="/busy/image/url.gif"
inlineStyle="display:none" />
        <tr:commandButton text="push"
onclick="document.getElementById('busyIconIndicator').style.display='inline'" >
                <f:actionListener ... />
        </tr:commandButton>
</tr:document>

Not tested it so don't know if this will work just like this, but it's a
starting point.

Can you expand on this?
