Hi Simon, I am really sorry but I don't know what the problem is here. Maybe it's Trinidad, maybe it's your code.
Have you tried altering the second table or the data model somehow? Maybe leave out some columns or don't wrap it in a <tr:panelGroupLayout>. Or even change order of the tables on the facelet page.
