the maximum age is 3 releases, so yes that would work. But you would have to 
clear the config for NB 25 too - since NB will only ask on first launch.

btw the reason for the limit was https://github.com/apache/netbeans/issues/6135 
which lists several other issues which were caused by imports of old / 
potentially corrupted configs.

There is a second way how to migrate the config: you can export/import the 
config from the options window. However, I never used this before (outside of 
bugfixing purposes) - I don't really know how well this works in practice.
