Creating a custom L2 cache

Hi,
Can someone tell me how to implement a custom remote commit/cache provider?
We are running openjpa 1.2.2 using websphere 6 without ejb pack and would like 
to use the distributed cache as a way to share l2 cache data among the cluster. 
Is that possible?
