Trying to resolve incorrect DDL for creating a foreign key column, I found http://openjpa.208410.n2.nabble.com/JoinColumn-match-its-length-to-the-referenced-column-td3227480.html this post , which already describes the exact same problem. I tried to search JIRA but found nothing referencing the issue.
Was this ever reported as a bug? If so, was it fixed in any version? (I'm experiencing the same OpenJPA behavior as the orignal poster with version 1.2.0).
