I'm not sure if I missed something, but:
if (!this.center && !this.isValidLonLat(lonlat)) {
lonlat = this.maxExtent.getCenterLonLat();
}
If the lonlat isn't valid, zooming in on the lonlat will scoot you back
to the middle of the map.
