Yes!
If there are no objections I would like that very much.

I think you are wrong.
If I click on the "Settings" link after being logged in, I can clearly see my email. If I enter a comment on an issue on Trac, I get an email notification without supplying my email address. So clearly my email is present and avalible for Trac, but not being used unless I enter a comment myself.

Huh. Okay. I had no idea that worked.

If anything, it should send notifications ONLY when others comment, I assume most people are aware that
they have just posted a message.

So, to be clear, you're interested in receiving emails on any ticket
activity where you've opened the ticket? It looks like this is just a
setting in trac that wasn't set -- "always_notify_reporter" -- which I
can change to on.

No, it's not.

OpenLayers uses an extremely simple registration system. There is no
association of user account to email address anywhere.

For now, simply place your email into the CC field on tickets you're
interested in. At some point in the future, we will move OpenLayers
Trac/SVN hosting to OSGeo, at which point you will use your OSGeo ID to
login/post tickets, which does have your email address associated with
it.
