You can pass a userCallback to the create function if you instantiate
the protocol like that:
new OpenLayers.Protocol.HTTP({
url: "yourUrl",
format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, // needs to read insertFids
options: {
create: {
callback: function(response) {
// your stuff here
}
scope: yourFunctionScope
}
}
}
