Sadly no feedback on this. However, I've made available a demo illustrating the problem:
http://europa.uk.com/demo/ve_tms_overlay_problem.html The purple roads overlay is a TMS layer. It sits perfectly over Google, Yahoo and OSM, but disappears when VE is selected as the base. You can see image placeholders appear for tiles that don't exist. Is this a bug in OL or have I done something stupid?!
