I've added this to Trac, #2305.
Problem occurs with opening a vector layer. Workaround for IE to avoid
VML bug.
Change creator for vector from say
vectorLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("My Layer"); to
vectorLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("My
Layer",{renderers:['Canvas']});
ie get rid of the VML renderer option.
