In doubt, create an issue in BugZilla https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ and attach your file, or an extract if it contains sensitive information. This will allow everybody to have a look. One of the main advantages in ODF should be that it doesn't depend on a specific application... but bugs exist, so it might be that one of the applications has a problem.
