Hi,
You've to activate the hidden text in Tools>Options>OOo>Writer>Formatting Aids,
"Display of" section.
NB: version 4.0.1 has just been released, you should upgrade. Version 3.3 is
rather deprecated now.

- use view Non-printing characters.
In one laptop the hidden text reappears, in the other not.
Is there anything wrong in the configuration (customisation?)
