I've got a problem with mathematical equations in Apache Openoffice. I have tried versions 3.4.1, 4,01, 4.1 and in all of those I have the same problem. When I try to write for example 2 + 2 or anything else on my screen I can see an empty square called "object" inside with green frame. There is the same result with all kinds of mathematical equations in Apache Openoffice Writer.

Please help me as quick as it's possible. This is very important for me because I can't work with my documents. In the attachment there is a print screen with my problem. I hope that solving this problem will be quick and You have a simple solution for me :)

Attached files are not generally distributed by the list processor, so no-one will have seen your screen shot.

Are you creating a separate formula document or - as I'm guessing - trying to insert mathematical formulae into a text (Writer) document? If the latter:
o Go to Insert | Object > | Formula.
o Type the formula (or the code for it) into the lower window.
o Put the cursor back into the document window.

Are you concerned about the eight green squares spaced around the formula? Those are the "handles" which define the frame into which your new formula has been placed. They disappear as soon as you click away from the formula; in any case, they - along with the grey box around the formula - will not print. Go to Page Preview to confirm this. If the grey box is green (which is no problem, as it still won't print), you may want to go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice | Appearance and adjust the colour for "Object boundaries". ("Automatic" is a good choice.)

I don't know why your square should be empty unless you've entered something improper (not just your "2 + 2") into the lower window.

I trust this helps.
