I wonder if it is sensible to compare individual features and behaviour across different programs, even when they are designed to "do the same thing".
Seems to me it is simpler (and a lot more useful) that you focus instead on what you want to do with an office suite.
Once you have defined your requirements, you will then be able to compare how MS Office and Open Office can achieve those results, and compare their performance "for the task".
