When you installed OO, it set the file associations to it. Word is still there and if you right click on a file, you should see the option to choose it. It's entirely possible to have more than one app available to handle a document type, but only one can be default. If you wish, you can change the defaults back to Work. On the Windows systems I have here, I have OpenOffice, LibreOffice and Word viewer installed. If I just click on the file icon, the default app will open.
