Katherine,
you must understand that installing an app, any app,
including the OS (windows, Linux, Apple OS X, Unix, Sun OS, HPUX
...etc),
might or could open the door wide for backdoor entry
into your computer, and/or install trojans that communicate
to remote site(s) and download and install malware.
There are many websites that you visit with your choice
of browser, and they will install javascripts on your machine.
Many many of these javascripts install malware on your system
without your knowledge, let alone your consent.
It is part of today's world and there is not much that can be done.
Most websites will not work (i.e. display on your screen or allow
interaction by you, such as clicking on a link, or filling a form or
searching ...), without letting them install their javascripts on your
computer.
If anyone tells you that javascript cannot do that, know full well
than person is either a liar or is ignorant of what javascripts can do.
This doesn't help the poster with her problem for two reasons:
1. The user isn't subscribed so she doesn't see your reply
2. These comments doesn't tell what to do to solve the problem
If the user is not subscribed, there was no warning from the server (in
the message)
that the user is not subscribed.
The truth is, there is not a whole heck of a lot that can help
the situation in general.
I am in constant state of war against websites that try to intrude
with javascripts (which I block). The antivirus daemon catches
some malware during download, but most of them reveal their
nature after they run and sometimes are caught by the antivirus
or I notice strange activity.
Not being able to help is necessarily the sole purpose of this list.
People need to be aware that downloading anything should first
be scanned before installation, which is also not a 100% solution.
