Are you sure you are looking for your files in the right directories?
If you are using windows, try to search for one of your files the name
of which you know.
If you are using Linux, run the command
locate <your-file-name>
If file cannot be found, then you must have deleted them.
While it is possible to retrieve deleted files (in windows, they are
in the trash can).
On Linux, it is much more complicated.
