Not sure this is going to help, as some more information might
be needed for better troubleshooting - but it sounds like there
might be some permission problems, or some corrupted preferences.
Are you able to open and edit any other file type - e.g., Writer
(text or .doc) documents?
When I examine the contents of a cell, any coding between the
digits is invisible and if I try to change anything it says
error. Or if I try to create a new cell calculation is says error.
Not sure what you mean by "coding between the digits". Just as
an example, can you type the following into a standard cell:
=(13+12-6)*2
What happens when you hit Enter (Return)?
