spellcheck problem

Dear Apache 
ater completing a letter in my  open office word processor ......when I click 
on my auto-spellchecker button the system insists on checking ever word one at 
a time, irrespective of whether the word is spelt correctly or not...
if I uninstalled the software and then re installed, would I lose all my 
documents 
apart from  the above problem I love my free apache software  !!
