I need 2 formulas for 2 columns that show either the profit or loss . Columns C & D.

E.G.
Column A has a figure $8,000.00
Column B shows sale of item $10,000.00

This is a profit of $2,000.00, which I want to show in Column C. If the figures were (Sales $6,000.00), then the Loss would appear in column D

I NEED a formula for column C that states; IF B is GREATER than A then put the difference ($2000.00) here in column C ....... OR if it is LESS then leave Column C with 0.00. OR BLANK

I NEED a formula for column D that states; IF A is GREATER than B then put the difference ($2000.00) here in column D ....... OR if it is LESS then leave Column D with 0.00. OR BLANK

If you are happy with the other column in each case having a zero result, then in Cn enter
=MAX(0;Bn-An)
and in Dn enter
=MAX(0;An-Bn)

If you need the other column to be empty, for Cn use
=IF(Bn>An;Bn-An;"")
and for Dn use
=IF(An>Bn;An-Bn;"")

Also under what sub heading in the HELP area, can I find all the formula options. E.G +, /, , *, sum, IF, etc

You probably won't find anything about simple mathematical operators in the help text as this is probably not intended to teach you basic spreadsheet use. It will assume that you know how to construct basic formulae. If not, your best starting point is a book, a course, or local help.

If you go to the Index tab in the help text, you will find "sum" under "SUM" and "IF" under "IF". For other functions, see "functions". Or you could try the Function Wizard in the Input Line.

I trust this helps.
