In order for an unsubscribe web page to work it would have to recognize the user who's wanting to unsubscribe, otherwise anyone could unsubscribe anyone else. To get around that a paasword system would have to be established and the web page hosted and maintained. I fail to see how that simplifies things. Clicking on the appropriate link at the bottom of any message from any member of the group, then clicking "send", waiting a minute for a confirmation request to arrive then returning that as requested seems to me to be much easier.
Ive subscribed to hundreds of lists. Recently I found I was getting too much email, and I clicked on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of about twenty of them. None of the pages asked for a password, and every one unsubscribed the address passed to it without a problem.

The reason for the suggestions was to improve the list, not to add to the clutter. By the quality of the product, it's obvious a lot of smart people donated time on the OO project. Why something as simple as fixing a minor unsubscribe problem, generates so much opposition is beyond understanding, and besides that, I don't think
making excuses does anyone any good.
