I am frustrated with my attempts to delete an erroneous Chart in Calc. It seems that a chart can only be cut.

So what's wrong with cutting it? If you cut something, you have deleted it. The fact that a copy is placed on the clipboard is irrelevant unless you subsequently paste that clipboard content.

What is the proper procedure to select and then delete (entirely) an existing chart in Calc?

o You select a chart by clicking once inside it. You will see it surrounded by the eight coloured handles. The exception to this is if you already have the chart or some aspect of it selected. In that case, click outside the chart to cancel that selection before clicking once inside it.

o You can delete a selected item in many ways:
 + Press Backspace.
 + Press Delete.
+ Go to Edit | Cut (or Ctrl+X).
+ Go to Edit | Delete Content... .

I trust this helps.
