If you are using Windows, close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address
Bar and press Enter. Delete or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

Reinstalling OpenOffice does not generate a new OO User Profile. You possibly
lost your spellcheck links because of over-hasty power off of your computer,
before all internal house keeping was complete. In future wait a few extra
seconds to be certain all disk activity has ceased when going through the
formal computer shut-down process.
