Two updates: 1) I'm using Chrome (latest version) 2) The page seems to work
in MS Edge.

I do have Javascript enabled in Chrome, so I still don't understand why the
template pages don't work on it. I don't like Edge or IE and I don't want
to use them if I don't have to.
