You are probably Pasting HTML code and OpenOffice is preserving this.  If you 
do not wish to see the "ghost" lines, use /Edit /Paste Special and select 
"unformatted text" from the popup.

Set your Styles correctly and stop using direct formatting.

Press the Insert key to toggle from Insert to Overwrite, or in your case from 
Overwrite to Insert; or click in the Over/Instr box in the middle of the status 
bar (bottom bar of OO window) to have the same effect.

The faults complained of are all User faults.  Perhaps you should read some 
instructions?  This is a useful (brief) guide, in a number of languages:

It may be that you and OpenOffice are not suited, much as people prefer one 
make of car to another.  In that case, you should look for some other 
wordprocessor/Office suite.
