In /Tools /Options /Language Settings /Languages you need to set your locale 
and the default language for documents.  In /Tools /Options /Language Settings 
/Writing Aids you should select Hunspell Spellchecker, LibHyphen Hyphenator
 and Check Spelling as you type and whatever other options you require.
