The only difference between a 32bit and a 64 bit program is how much memory
(RAM) the App can work with.

32bit apps are restricted to 4 gigabytes.

I have never run across a Word document or Spreadsheet that is too big and
makes OpenOffice need more then 4GB of RAM to process.

But to answer your question: the App needs to be reworked to compile as a
64 bit application.

Some volunteers were working on this back in January this year and reported
up to 85% success rate in building the different modules that cromprise the
office suite. But then they ran into technical hurdles.

But work is ongoing and a 64bit windows build of OpenOffice will eventually
E produced.

Until then, use the 32bit OpenOffice version on 64 hit windows. 32bit or 64
bit does not impact how OO opens or fails to open certain files.
