This sounds off. I would like to see that template.
however Microsoft standard has very low priority within AOO. We do not
support writing capability, and have a smart filter to read it, which
works in some cases.
Wikipedia lists a good overview on alternatives if you want to consider
a move. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_office_suites
OnlyOffice is an open Source solution that is build around the MSOffice
format.
Our Sister Project LibreOffice has put much effort in compatibility to
MS Office.
There are more Options on the wiki page.
IMHO the best way is to ask for a ODF template, which can be written by
MS Office and is supported by Apache OpenOffice.
But i am not sure you can request that your Organization provides you
with a technical optimal format.
All the best

I am writing briefs for a NGO and my computer is with Open Office and they
use a Microsoft template. Strange things happen on my computer, when I
copy a former brief and fill in the new context with item numbers
The numbers get confused and it copies the last two items again and again
for 9 pages. If I delete the 9 pages it also deletes the two items, that
should stay in the sequence
It is a very big problem and if I can't solve it, I'm obliged to get
Microsoft on my computer, which I'd rather not.
Can you help me in some way
