Apache OpenOffice will continue to work on your intel based Mac. If you have a Silicon Chip. M1 or later, your current AOO may stop working in September 2027 because the software that translates intel commands to M1 commands will not be supported anymore.
How that plays out we do not know and we do not want to try out. That is why we focus on a Version for Mac Silicon, to provide the community a working Apache OpenOffice in future. What that means for intel system is currently unclear. If we will offer the 4.1.X branch for download, or continue to publish a intel legacy version that reflects newest development or if we publish a universal installer which contains both is still open development.
However one concern is the ability to test intel and Mac silicon versions. We have only a view volunteer to test the software at all. With more testers we gain better confidance and see community interest. At least currently development of both versions is possible.
My advise is, if you have the need and want updates in future then write a mail to the development mailing list and step up as tester.
