Somehow openoffice.org got installed on my computer. How I don't know, but
is causing serious harm to an online course I am trying to do.

Every time I go to uninstall it - I get an error message staying to shut
down QuickStart. I don't know what that is & I can tell you I don't have it
open.

Pls tell me how to uninstall this product from my computer as soon as
possible.

Could you please explain what the harm is? Just curious.

If you look in your task bar (Lower right hand side of the screen where the clock is) you will see a little blue and white logo with what appears to be two black lines cutting across it (These are birds) that is the quickstarter logo.

If you right click on that, then you you will get some option, one of which is exit quick starter. That will close it.

After that, you should be able to uninstall.

Hope that helps.

Quickstart appears in the system tray as a blue and white icon.
If you're using Windows XP, Windows may have hidden some of the tray
icons, but you can reveal them by clicking the double chevron (>> or
<<). The tray is where the time is shown on the Windows taskbar. There
is also a setting to prevent Windows from hiding these icons. I don't
use XP so I don't remember how to set that.

If OpenOffice.org is on your system without your having done it,
then it came pre-installed, or someone else has access to your computer
and they installed it. It can't just install itself. In any case,
right-click on the Quickstarter icon and uncheck "Load Quickstarter at
system startup. Right-click again and select "Exit Quickstarter". You
should then have no trouble uninstalling OpenOffice.org using Add/Remove
Programs.

I'm curious to know what problems you've experienced. You
mention an online course. Could it be that you need your work in
Microsoft format? In that case, there is no problem. OpenOffice.org
can open and save to any MS Office format (.doc, .xls, .ppt, etc.). You
only have to remember to use "Save as..." in the File menu and select
the appropriate MS format from the drop-down list. Also, if you want to
continue using MS Office, there's no problem there either.
OpenOffice.org can coexist very nicely with MS Office. If the person
who installed OpenOffice.org made it the default program for MS Office
documents you can still open them with MS Office by right-clicking the
document icon and selecting "Open with..." then the appropriate MS
Office program.
