Whenever I open the program the entire screen is used - full size. I
have to click on the restore down button and then the program is a small
screen in the centre of the monitor. I then have to pull the corners to
use most of the screen, but leaving me access to other buttons on the
desktop.
Why is this?
There seems to be no options in the tools menu to enable me to open at
the same size as the last time I opened the program. OO seems to be the
only program that I use to do this.
Help please.
Sounds as if a cosmic ray strike happened. I'm only being a little
facetious. I also feel safe to say this problem is unique to your computer.
You don't say if you have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that's
surely the first thing I'd try. That leaves either the OS (what is it, btw?)
or the installation files. I vote for the latter.
During your download, a noise spike probably occured which was compensated by
error correction. Problem is, if the hit was bad enough, error correction may
not have been able to restore the original state and created something new.
This frankenstruction (Like that? I just made it up!) now exists in the
portion of the program which controls window behavior on startup. Of course,
something similar could have occured while processing the data from the hard
disk during installation, but it's less likely. There is also the possibility
of a corrupted module in your OS installation caused by who knows what
electromechanical gremlin in your hard drive.
You can test the corruption-during-installation condition easily by completely
uninstalling then reinstalling OOo 1.1.4. If the behavior remains, try another
download and repeat the reinstallation sequence. Of course, if the
frankenstruction exists in your download files, no amount of uninstalling /
re-installing will produce a change.
I have downloaded numerous stable and beta versions of OOo and installed them
on win98 and various flavors of Linux and have occasionally seen unwanted
behaviors which I first chased using the above methods. If the problems
continue and are consistent on both my computers, the next step is a bug report.
Hope this is useful,
Doug
