I have a web site I'm converting from 40+ pages of hard coded html
tables to a few templates and a mysql database.

The data are presented in tables and everything copies and pastes
nicely into individual cells of a Calc spreadsheet.

My problem is that many of the elements being copied from the web site
are html links. When I paste those into Calc, they remain links and
only links. I want to convert them to plain text but nothing I have
tried in OOo will do it.

I have to think that I've overlooked a setting or selection in OOo
somewhere.

Any help to get me off this point where I've been hung up for a week
is appreciated.

One of my favourite features in OOo (which MSO does not have) is
"default". Whenever I copy info from the web, it is all wonky
formatting. In MSO this is a HUGE pita to fix/get to not jump all over
the place. In OOo, I select all, right click and hit "default" (top
option in the context menu). That gets rid of all formatting (including
URLs). Then I can apply styles at will and I'm happy-happy.

Try this and see if it does what you want. I know it works well in
Writer, but imagine it will also work fine in Calc.

I almost never set styles in a spreadsheet because I use them only for data/number crunching. As a result, it was/is already set to default style and changing styles is no help.

I should explain that what I'm trying to do is get the data into a spreadsheet
so that I can output a CSV file which I can import into mysql. The real
problem with these cells is that they aren't editable. When I click anywhere
in them, they open the link in my browser. When the cell is selected with the
arrow keys, the contents appear as a (background colored) block in the input
line and the cursor cannot be positioned anywhere inside the block. Only the
beginning or end of it.

It appears that my problem stems from these items being handled as objects
rather than as text.
