You should not be hitting the power button. You can hear and see the system working, but it just doesn't have enough memory to do it quickly.


When you see something like this happen again, wait a few minutes for it to finish. Even with journaled filesystems, you should avoid hitting the power or reset buttons or you might get corrupted or lost files.
