Little bit more info may be required. I've just tried and everything works ok for me. There are small formatting differences, but that's to be expected.
I'm using OOo1.1.2 on Win XP and M$ Outlook as the mail client. In some ways it may even be better (if it is an entire document) to 'send document as PDF'.
