Hi Nagashree,

BTW, the Navigator (F5) has the same button, 2nd left-top. What does that one do?

If this is really the case that when you click on the ball a floating
window does not appear from which to select the various
search/navigation modes, then you should run repair. YOu should also
note that various functions in OOo affect the way these navigation
functions are activated. For more information please see

Yes, I have also noticed this behaviour.
Clicking on the icon with the ball has no effect

Thanks and regards,

I have suddenly developed a strange problem. When using the search facility the vertical navigation double chevron buttons on the RH side of the screen which enable you to jump from page to page (rather than the single buttons which scroll up and down) turned blue and will now only come up as blue in all OpenOffice files. When holding the mouse over the double chevron the pop-up message reads "continue searching backwards (or forwards)" instead of last page / next page.

In other words it is set permanently on search and I cannot find a way
to switch it off.

Can you help?
