Hi Crystal, and Seann, and all who are interested,

If I am mistaken, please correct me but, I did some serious research on
the subject this weekend, and found that Crystal was right to begin
with. Installation in a new directory is the proper path.

It seems that all of the scripting that Red Hat does (as well as Suse
I'm sure), is to handle multiple language installation. If you are only
dealing with a single language, those scripts can be eliminated, and the
short ones provided by OOo can be called directly. The start menu can
also be edited to point to the same scripts.

Regards,

Tom

I would just download the tar, untar it and then run the setup program.
You shouldn't have to change any "scripts".

Crystle

Actually, this raises another question.

I just downloaded OOo 1.1.4 for Linux x86.

I'm new to Linux, and have Linux and Win XP dual boot installed on a lap
top.

When I clicked on setup to install / upgrade OOo to the linux portion,
*nothing* happens. I gleaned from some place that I need to change the
chmod for the start and install files.

Is there a Linux / Suse 9.1 afficiando who can suggest some pointers?
